LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Averett University wrestling team finished 1-2 on Day 1 of competition at the NWCA National Duals. 
 
Missing several key members of its regular starting lineup, nationally ranked Averett (14-5) started the day with a 33-12 loss to nationally ranked Rochester Institute of Technology. After a tough first round loss the Cougars bounced back with a gritty 28-19 win over Mount St. Joseph University in the consolation round. Unfortunately, Averett fell 31-20 in the next consolation matchup to Millikin University, ending the Cougars' dual tournament run. 

Senior Brandon Woody, ranked 15th nationally by NWCA, highlighted the day for the Cougars by going 3-0 in the dual matches, which all were wins by fall. Two of those wins were over ranked wrestlers.
