ROANOKE, Va. - The Averett University women's soccer team took down Hollins University 6-1 for their first-ever Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday night.
Averett (3-5-1, 1-2 ODAC) would jump out ahead of Hollins (0-5, 0-2 ODAC) early in the match when junior
Katri Kakko would find freshman
Lisanne Guiaux in the third minute of play, netting the Cougars first goal of the match and Guiaux's first career goal also.
Averett would take a 3-0 lead into halftime with goals by junior
Remy Vigouroux in the 19th minute and freshman
Sarai Martinez in the 32nd minute. Martinez's goal is the first in her young career.
Junior would net the Cougars fourth goal of the night in the 57th minute of play. Less than 90 seconds later freshman
Isobel Evans would score the first goal of her career, bringing the score to 5-0.
In the 61st minute of play, Hollins would net their lone goal of the night.
Vigouroux would net her second goal of the match in the 77th minute of play, bringing the final match score to 6-1.
Averett recorded 37 shots in the match with 23 shots on goal and took a season high 20 corner kicks.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday when they host Roanoke College at 11 a.m. for Homecoming.
