BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Averett University women's tennis team took down Southern Virginia University 6-3 on Thursday in the women's lone dual match this fall.
Junior Paula Rhysen and Senior
Alejandra Garcia teamed up at the No. 2 doubles slot to earn Averett's (1-0) lone doubles point over Southern Virginia (1-1) in a thrilling 8-5 victory.
The Cougars would ounce back strong in singles play, taking five out of the six singles points at stake.
At the No. 2 singles slot, freshman
Brenda Poulakidas would take down Campbell Bueller 7-6, 6-2
Rhysen would tally another point for the Cougars at No. 3 singles, defeating Jillian Arnold 6-2, 6-1
Garcia would also find herself victorious for the second time in the dual as she defeated Nadia Molanphy 6-4, 6-3
Freshman
Amelie Brune would defeat Elizabeth Galli 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles
Freshman
Elisa Battermann defeated Grace Howell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles, earning her first-ever collegiate win.
Averett is back in action next on Oct. 15-16, when they compete in the Battle of the Blue Ridge hosted by Sweet Briar College.
