RALEIGH, N.C. — Averett University men's basketball moved one step closer to clinching the USA South Conference's East Division regular season crown with a 65-51 road win over William Peace University on Saturday afternoon.
Three Cougars scored in double figures as Averett built a solid lead in the first half and held on in the second period. William Peace got as close as 10 points midway through the second half, but junior
Jalen Rowell answered with a 3-pointer and the Cougars regained momentum.
Sophomores
Jordan Lewis and
Jason Sellars II led Averett with 14 points apiece, and both added six rebounds. Junior
Corey Baldwin added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds in the win for the Cougars, who hold a two-game lead in the East standings with three games to go.
Averett shot 47.5 percent from the floor as a team.

The Cougars travel Tuesday to play Pfeiffer University at 7 p.m.
