LEXINGTON, Va. — Averett University baseball lost its first road game of the season in a 19-2 non-conference loss to Washington and Lee University on Wednesday afternoon.
Washington and Lee grabbed momentum when the Generals plated four runs in the bottom of the first. An RBI triple got their scoring going, and a sacrifice fly gave Washington and Lee a 2-0 advantage. Mitchell Salvino, who had a solo homer against the Cougars in Game 1 last Saturday, added a two-run shot to left field to put the Generals ahead 4-0 through one inning.
Washington and Lee (3-0) tacked on seven more runs in the third and fourth innings to pull away.
Averett (0-3) got its lone two runs on junior
Nolan Maccabe's two-run double in the seventh inning, which scored sophomore
Brandt Brophy and freshman
Joseph Allen.
The Cougars travel to Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday.
