DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University baseball dropped a tough game to non-conference foe Hampden-Sydney on Tuesday afternoon at Owen-Fulton Field.
Hampden-Sydney (3-1) edged Averett (1-4) 7-6 after the Cougars jolted out to a 4-0 through the first four innings.
Averett saw Senior
Avery Spicer strike the first run on the board with an RBI single scoring scoring fellow senior
Brandon Hatcher. The Cougars kept it rolling in the second inning as freshman
Kevin Zischke earned two RBI's on a single.
Sophomore
Drew Rabon also tallied an RBI as Averett extened its lead to 4-0 in the third.
The Cougars, however, gave up seven unanswered runs to the Tigers and headed into the 8th inning down 7-4. Averett was able to plate one in the 8th but that's it.
In the 9th inning sophomore
Hudson Rowe almost knotted the game up at seven all with a two run shot as the sophomore just caught the of of the fence and the Cougars fell short by one.
Averett is back in action tomorrow when they travel to the University of Lynchburg with first pitch at 2 p.m.
