VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan University took both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Averett University softball on Saturday.
In the opener, the Virginia Wesleyan (4-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. In the 5th inning the Marlins tacked on two more earning a 5-2 victory.
Averett (1-3) scored two in the 7th to get on the board. Senior Lauren Johnston led the Cougars with two hits along with an RBI while senior Anna Coleman and sophomore Chloe Horton also added a hit a piece.
In Game 2, the Cougars scored first off an RBI double from senior Hannah Thompson which scored Coleman. The Marlins scored 10 unanwsered after that earning a 10-1 win.
Averett travels to Carolina University on March 10 at 2 p.m.
