ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Averett University women's tennis knocked off N.C. Wesleyan 9-0 in USA South Conference play on Wednesday afternoon.
Averett (10-4, 7-0 USA South) earned its first win over the Bishops since 2009 with a dominating performance. Freshmen
Maxence Lippens and
Linnea Sjostrom Krook earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while senior
Inka Zeilstra and freshman
Keira Gunning won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles as Averett took a 3-0 lead into singles play against N.C. Wesleyan (1-9, 1-5 USA South).
In singles, Lippens came back from dropping the first set to win 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 1. Freshman
Megan Lombardt also won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 7-5. At No. 3 singles, sophomore
Paula Ryhsen won the opening set 6-3 and was up 2-0 when her opponent retired. Zeilstra also won in straight sets.
