DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University baseball lost its series opener to William Peace University19-6 on Friday afternoon at Owen-Fulton Field.

Averett (11-24, 4-12 USA South) fell down early to William Peace (18-16, 8-8 USA South) 3-0 in the second inning but it wasn't long before the Cougars struck back. In the bottom of the third Averett scored two runs after senior
Nate Tuck singled to get on base and later came around to score on a balk. Fellow senior
Avery Spicer singled to score senior
Brandon Hatcher who got on base after being hit by a pitch.
Both teams tacked on another run in the 5th as Spicer picked up another RBI on a fielders choice. The Pacers exploded for seven runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings extending their lead.
The Cougars crossed three runs matching the Pacer seven but then gave up eight in the eighth to end the game to run rule.
Hatcher and Tuck both finished with two hits while sophomore
Drew Rabon and junior
Kyle Wilson also picked up hits for the Cougars.
