ROME, Ga. — East Division No. 1 seed Averett University women's tennis stormed to a 9-0 win over West Division No. 4 seed Brevard College in the USA South Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.
Averett (13-4) didn't lose a game in doubles as the No. 1 duo of freshmen
Maxence Lippens and
Linnea Sjostrom Krook won 8-2 while the No. 2 tandem of senior
Inka Zeilstra and freshman
Keira Gunning won 8-1. The Cougars wrapped up doubles action with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles from sophomore
Paula Ryhsen and junior
Alejandra Garcia.
Averett picked up each win in singles action in straight sets. Lippens picked up a victory at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Zeilstra, Ryhsen, Garcia and Gunning also rattled off wins for the Cougars while freshman
Megan Lombardt won 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 2 slot.
Averett also was presented with its USA South East Division regular season championship trophy on Thursday.
The Cougars face East No. 3 seed Southern Virginia University on Friday at 10 a.m.
