DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball dropped a conference matchup in four sets as Bridgewater College topped the Cougars 3-1 on Friday night in the Grant Center.
Averett (9-7, 4-2 ODAC) took the first set 25-23 in a tightly contested frame in a key matchup in ODAC play. However, Bridgewater (11-6, 5-0 ODAC) bounced back to take the second set 25-16. The Eagles took an early lead in the third set and held off a small Averett run to win the third set 25-17.
In the fourth set, Averett closed the gap to 23-22 before the Eagles won the final two points to seal the match.
Junior
Sarah Marlowe led the team with 16 kills and junior
Emma Nash had 10 kills. Meanwhile, junior
Erin Gray had 29 digs and sophomore
Kinsley Stevens had 11 digs and 27 assists.
Gray and Stevens were recognized before the game for milestone moments from earlier in the season. Gray got her 1,000th dig and Stevens got her 1,000th assist a few weeks ago.
Averett is scheduled to play Washington and Lee University on Saturday at noon.
