Rowell scores 13 in men's basketball loss to Roanoke

DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's basketball dropped a home conference game 70-50 to Roanoke College on Wednesday night in the Grant Center.

Roanoke (13-2, 6-0 ODAC), which is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com poll, used a 16-2 run midway through the first half to go in front 27-16 after Averett (6-10, 2-5 ODAC) led for almost the first seven and a half minutes of the game. The Cougars got back within six before the Maroons extended their advantage to 35-24 at the break.

The Maroons continued to grow their lead throughout the second half as they pulled away to remain unbeaten in league play.

Averett got 13 points off the bench from senior Jalen Rowell, as well as a team-high 10 rebounds from senior Bryson McLaughlin, who chipped in seven points. Sophomore Bryce Shaw added nine points and junior Jason Sellars II had eight points and six boards for the Cougars.

Averett outrebounded Roanoke 39-32.

The Cougars travel to face No. 21 Guilford College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
