The Events: The Cougars are currently 1-1 in the tournament. They lost 34-9 against Luther College. They dominated in the next dual against the University of Mount Union 40-5 with four Cougars winning by fall. Sophomore Mason Barrett defeated No. 2 wrestler in the nation Jack Stanley. Their first opponent of the day is the University of Dubuque.
Averett at a Glance : The Cougars, ranked No. 22 in the nation in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III tournament team rankings, enter their fourth dual competition with a 9-3 record. In their last dual competition, the Cougars' A Team dominated the competition, putting up a combined 223 points in the Cougar Duals. Averett's B Team had a strong showing, finishing in the top-five. Redshirt senior Billy Baldwin went 5-0 in the competition and racked up two falls, one technical fall and a decision to later earn Old Dominion Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week honors at 197 pounds. Sophomore Mason Barrett is ranked number eight in the NWCA national rankings at 125 pounds. In the 157-pound weight class Sophomore Jesse Alvarado is ranked seventh in the nation. The Cougars currently have seven regionally ranked wrestlers.
