DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's volleyball fell 3-0 to conference foe Roanoke College in a pinked-out Grant Center on Tuesday night as the Cougars promoted breast cancer awareness.

Roanoke (12-8, 7-3 ODAC) jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening set and led 19-11 before Averett (11-10, 6-5 ODAC) mounted a comeback to get within 19-15. After a Maroons timeout, Roanoke eventually won 25-18. In Set 2, Roanoke inched ahead 11-7 before Averett tied it 15-15. The Cougars momentarily staved off set point by winning three points in a row to earn set point. However, the Maroons scored the final three points to pull out a 27-25 win to go up 2-0 in the match.

Both teams traded multiple-point runs in a tight battled as Averett tried to force a fourth set. However, with Set 3 tied 23-23, Roanoke won the final two points to pull out the win.

Senior middle Destiny McIntosh led Averett with 13 kills and had two blocks, while freshman Hope Parrish finished with seven kills. Senior Erin Gray led the Cougars with 17 digs, while senior Emma Nash had 13 digs. Junior Kinsley Stevens finished with a team-best 21 assists.
