Gray surpasses 2,000-dig milestone for career as women's volleyball falls to Centre, No. 22 Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Averett University women's volleyball completed its regular season with a 3-0 loss to Centre College and a 3-0 loss to host No. 22 University of Mary Washington in non-conference action on Saturday.

The two non-conference matches were the Cougars' final prep before entering postseason play. Averett (13-16) earned the No. 6 seed and will travel to No. 3 seed Bridgewater College in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Averett opened Saturday with a tight three-set loss to Centre (20-8). The Colonels won 26-24, 25-20 and 25-14. Senior Erin Gray, who already set Averett's career digs record earlier this season, eclipsed 2,000 career digs in the Centre match with 16. Senior Destiny McIntosh had a team-high nine kills, junior Kinsley Stevens had 13 digs and 10 assists and sophomore Dayton Moore had 12 digs. Senior Emma Nash had a team-high five blocks to go with seven kills.

Averett then faced nationally ranked Mary Washington for the second time in a week later in the afternoon. The Eagles prevailed 25-20, 25-13 and 25-19 over the Cougars. Gray added to her milestone total with 17 digs against Mary Washington. Sophomore Rachel Green led Averett with nine kills, while McIntosh and Nash each had eight. Stevens had a double-double of 11 assists and 11 digs while Moore had a team-best 13 assists.
