VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Averett University women's basketball team fell on the road to Virginia Wesleyan University by a score of 54-44 on Wednesday.
Averett (4-20, 2-15 ODAC) would take a 20-18 lead into halftime over Virginia Wesleyan (7-17, 3-14 ODAC), the Marlins would gain the lead with 1:21 left in the third for the final time.
Freshman
Skylar Jones erupted offensively for a career-high 17 points, Jones also pulled down six rebounds, dished out three assists and had one block. Fellow freshman
Elisa Harris scored 11 points, shooting 50 percent from three-point range and pulling down seven rebounds. Junior
Jihnez Hutchinson brought down a team-high 10 rebounds.
As a team, Averett out rebounded the Marlins 47-34.
Averett is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Roanoke College at 2 p.m.
