Elizabeth Peasley moved from seventh up to a tie for fourth all-time in NCAA Division III career goals scored after netting eight goals in Averett University women's lacrosse's 18-3 home victory over Eastern Mennonite University on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium on Saturday.
Averett (4-0) remained undefeated with another strong effort as the Cougars opened the game with 10 consecutive goals in the first quarter against Eastern Mennonite (1-5). Five of those goals came from Peasley, while senior
Kelsey Steckroth and sophomore
Faith Bowlin each had two and senior
Morgan Dearing had one.
Steckroth added a third goal to complete her hat trick in the second quarter and senior
Raven Felder scored twice to give the Cougars a 13-0 advantage entering halftime.
Averett pulled away over the final two quarters, getting three more goals from Peasley, another from Bowlin and one from sophomore
Rachel Rios.
Peasley had two assists as well on the day, while Bowlin and Dearing each had one. Bowlin led the team with seven draw controls for the Cougars, who also got four apiece from Peasley and Steckroth. Junior
Porsha Davis had a team-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Junior goalkeeper
Kaylee Joblon (4-0) earned the win, stopping all three shots she faced in the first half. Freshman
Caitlin Alperstein had three saves while playing in the second half.
Peasley entered the day with 334 career goals, which ranked seventh. She moved into sole possession of sixth place after her first goals, then moved up to fifth by the end of the first quarter. Her last goal tied her with Eastern University's Andrea Collesidis for fourth all-time with 442 career goals.
Averett hosts The College of Wooster on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
