DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University softball lost a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference games at home to Roanoke College on Tuesday, falling 10-0 in six innings and 7-0.
In Game 1, Roanoke (10-8, 4-2 ODAC) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly to foul territory down the left field line. The Maroons had the bases loaded but Averett (7-21, 2-8 ODAC) worked out of the jam to momentarily escape further trouble.
Roanoke, however, got a two-run double as part of a three-run third inning to go up 4-0. The Maroons added two more runs in the fourth and tacked on four runs in the sixth to pull away.
Averett was limited to three singles — one each by freshman
Hannah Zabik and seniors
Lauren Nelson and
Karsin Lee —by Roanoke starter Jada Karnes (5-3).

In the second game, Roanoke put up 3-0 in the top of the first, including one on an RBI double down the left field line. The Maroons scored three more runs in the fifth thanks to a pair of RBI singles and a bases loaded walk to push their lead to 6-0. Roanoke scored its final run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single.
Averett's four hits in Game 2 were a single by sophomore
Peyton Lowery in the third and three singles in the seventh by Zabik, Nelson and Lee as Averett loaded the bases. The Cougars appeared to get a sac fly in the bottom of the seventh to get onto the scoreboard, but Roanoke won an appeal that the runner left early at third before scoring the run and was ruled out for the final out of the game.
Sophomore
Madison Adams pitched 2.2 innings of relief in Game 2, allowing just one earned run. She also pitched a perfect third of an inning to finish Game 1.
Averett travels to Shenandoah University on Saturday for a pair of ODAC games.
