LYNCHBURG, Va. — Averett University softball took the opening game to earn a split with conference foe Randolph College on Wednesday. The Cougars won 10-2 before falling 7-0 in Game 2.
Averett (8-30, 3-15 ODAC) took the lead early in Game 1 and never looked back. Senior

Kailey Gates' two-run single up the middle extended the Averett lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth.
After Randolph (20-15, 8-8 ODAC) scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings to trim its deficit to 4-2, Averett exploded for four more runs in the sixth. Senior
