BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Sophomore
Faith Bowlin scored a team-high five goals and graduate student
Elizabeth Peasley scored four to move into a tie for third all-time in NCAA Division III career scoring, but it wasn't enough as Averett University women's lacrosse lost 22-10 at Bridgewater College on Saturday.
Â
Peasley's fourth goal of the day came with 7:54 left in the third quarter, giving her 362 for her career to tie Curry College's Ashley Hansbury (2008-11) for third all-time in Division III career goals. Peasley is now seven away from second place and eight away from matching the all-time record of 370.
Bridgewater (8-4. 3-0 ODAC), which has now won four in a row, opened the game on a tear to go up 7-1 in the first quarter. Bowlin scored her first goal at the 10:01 mark, which was Averett's lone goal in the opening frame until Peasley netted her first goal with eight seconds left in the first.
Powered by Peasley and Bowlin, Averett (7-2, 2-2 ODAC) alternated goals with Bridgewater in the second quarter as the Eagles took an 11-5 lead into halftime.
Averett stayed within striking distance until Bridgewater rattled off four consecutive goals in less than a two-minute span to go up 17-7. Despite two more goals from Bowlin and one late from senior
Raven Felder, it wasn't enough to catch up to the Eagles.
Felder and sophomore
Rachel Rios added two assists, with senior
Kelsey Steckroth making one assist. Bowlin led the Cougars with 11 draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Averett hosts Guilford College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
