LYNCHBURG, Va. — Averett University women's volleyball closed out a 3-1 victory on the road against Randolph College on Tuesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.
Averett (7-4, 2-0 ODAC) won the first two sets 25-13 and 25-17. Randolph (6-5, 0-1 ODAC) came back to edge the Cougars 25-23 in the third set, but Averett finished it off with a 25-23 win in Set 4 to clinch a 2-0 start in ODAC play.
The Cougars dominated the opening two sets, soaring to a 17-10 lead and finishing off the opening frame with an 8-3 run. Averett opened the second set wit a 5-0 lead and controlled it the rest of the way. In the third set, the Cougars led 19-13 before the WildCats mounted a huge comeback to force another set. The fourth set was tight as well, but Averett was able to put Randolph away with a kill by senior
Destiny McIntosh for the final point.
McIntosh hit .368 while putting down 11 kills. Senior
Emma Nash led the Cougars with 16 kills to go with 12 digs and three service aces. Sophomore
Rachel Green added nine kills and senior
Erin Gray had a team-best 21 digs. Junior
Kayleigh Gentry chipped in 10 digs, sophomore
Dayton Moore had 16 assists and 11 digs and junior
Kinsley Stevens finished with 14 assists and 11 digs to help the Cougars win their fourth match in a row this season and sixth consecutive meeting in the series with the WildCats.
Averett travels to Shenandoah University on Friday for another conference matchup.
