DANVILLE, Va.- Averett University women's basketball fell at home to Roanoke College 76-51 on Saturday.
Roanoke (12-6,7-4 ODAC) opened up the game with a 6-0 run over Averett (4-15, 2-10 ODAC) in the first two and a half minutes of play. Redshirt freshman
Carmen Moore answered back with a field goal to get the Cougars on the board. The Maroons ended the first quarter up 18-10 before scoring 27 points in the second quarter and going three-for-three from the three-point range. The Cougars entered halftime trailing 45-20 before falling to the Marrons 76-51.
Moore led Averett's offense with 10 points while senior
Jihnez Hutchinson led the rebounding efforts with six rebounds. Senior Talia Porsper and freshman Jenkins Ervins chipped in eight points each.
The Maroons had three players scoring the double digits with Parker Childress knocking down four three-pointers.
Averett is back in action next Saturday when it hosts Randolph College at 4:30 p.m. for Senior Day.
