BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Averett University football fell to Bridgewater College 63-7 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
Bridgewater (4-1, 2-0 ODAC), winner of four straight, jumped ahead 14-0 in the first quarter thanks to a pair of passing touchdowns. Averett (2-3, 0-2 ODAC) took advantage of a short field on its ensuing possession, which helped the Cougars get on the scoreboard. Freshman quarterback

Santana Wooten juked out two defenders and made his way into the end zone for am 8-yard touchdown to pull Averett within 14-7.
Bridgewater, however, stole the momentum right back by returning the kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles scored three more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 42-7 lead into halftime.
The Eagles tacked on another rushing touchdown in the third quarter, and returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 56-7. Bridgewater ran in one more touchdown with 6:07 to play for its final score.
