Averett at a Glance: Averett University women's basketball showed major tenacity towards the tail-end of its Saturday afternoon contest at the University of Mary Washington, but a late run from the Eagles was enough to upend the Cougars, 67-58. Averett led in overall field-goal makes and field-goal percentage, with 21 and a 45.7 percent clip, respectively. The Cougars edged out the Eagles in the rebound margin, 35-34. DaiShaundria Giggetts and Zariia America tied for the team-high in points with 13 each. The aforementioned Giggetts and Jaa Brown had a productive day on the boards, with six apiece, and Brown led in assists for Averett with three. Giggetts added on the defensive side, with two steals and a block.
Johnson & Wales at a Glance: Montreat College defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte 85-50 on Saturday evening. The host Cavaliers outscored the Wildcats 42-16 in the middle twenty minutes of the game to distance themselves from the visitors. Johnson & Wales struggled shooting the ball, making just one of sixteen 3 point shots and converted only half of their twenty-two free throw attempts. Maliah Preston led the Wildcats with 13 points, while Samara Britt came off the bench to score 12 points, grab 5 rebounds, and record 3 blocks. Jordan Durant had 3 assists to become the program's all-time assist leader. The Matthews, N.C. senior now ranks first in program history in both assists and steals, and is third on the career scoring list.
