SALEM, Va. — Averett University wrestling completed the Southeast Futures Tournament on Saturday afternoon, yielding two runner-up's and seven medalists.

Averett had two wrestlers finish in second place.Freshman Carter Shupert managed to get a technical fall, a pin and a major decision going into the finals at 149-pounds. In the 174-pound weight class, sophomore Michael Gabbard dominated his way to the finals, earning a technical fall and two decisions along the way. 

Senior Alex Logsdon placed at 125 pounds. Logsdon had an impressive performance putting up three technical falls and a major decision. Logsdon clinched third after defeating freshman Dominic Pascoe by a 19-3 technical fall. Sophomore Jacob Jiminez earned three technical falls, a major decision and a decision to clinch third in the 197-pound weight class. Heavyweight sophomore Braeden Fluke finished third in the contest after pinning his opponent in the consolation semis and once more in the third-place match.

Pascoe finished fourth. He won his first bout by a 9-3 decision in the quarterfinals. Senior Olli Karjalainen placed fourth in the contest at 141 pounds. Karjalainen racked up a technical fall, a major decision and earned a fall in the consolation semifinals around the two-minute mark. The 197-pound junior, Bryant Quaye placed fourth, pinning Peter Grippo at 3:25 in the quarterfinals.
