SWANNONOA, N.C. — Averett University men's volleyball fell 3-0 to Warren Wilson College on Friday night. The Owls won 25-15, 25-22 and 25-21 after narrowly edging the Cougars in a five-set thriller in Danville on Jan. 25.
Warren Wilson (3-2) used a strong start in Set 1 to take control, but Averett (0-6) bounced back in Set 2 in a tight battle to start. Up 8-7, the Owls inched ahead with a 5-1 spurt. That little bit of distance helped Warren Wilson scoot by in the second frame.
The Cougars raced out to a 10-5 start in Set 3 before the Owls eventually tied it, 13-13. That momentum propelled Warren Wilson the rest of the match as the Owls won in three.
Sophomore Jordan Tyler and freshman FinnOakley led Averett with six kills apiece, with Tyler added a team-high six digs. Freshman setter Noah Kaneshiro-Pate totaled 11 assists.
Averett hosts Carolina University on Feb. 20.
