BELMONT, N.C. — Averett University women's tennis lost a pair of matches to Division II Belmont Abbey College on Wednesday afternoon. The Crusaders won 7-0 and 5-2 over the Cougars in the doubleheader.
Belmont took all three doubles matches despite a good fight from the Cougars' No. 1 tandem of junior
Keira Gunning and freshman
Siddhi Khandelwal, who lost 7-6. The Crusaders won all six singles matches, although freshman
Dilara Sultanova won her opening set 6-4 before losing at the next two at No. 4 singles.
In the other match, Averett swept all three doubles matches to pick up a point. Freshman
Siddhi Khot and sophomore
Harshri Asher won 6-1 at No. 1, while sophomore
Amelie Schroeder and freshman
Annika Kellerer won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles. Freshman
Ana Herrera and sophomore
Franka Keil won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Belmont Abbey, however, took five of the six singles matches to clinch the win. Khot won 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles
