Women's tennis tops Washington (Md.)

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Averett University's women's tennis team earned a 7-2 neutral site win over Washington College of Maryland on Saturday in a match hosted at Christopher Newport University. 

 

Averett (6-3) took all three points in doubles play against Washington (1-6). At No. 1, junior Keira Gunning and freshman Siddhi Khandelwal teamed up for an 8-5 win, while sophomore Elisa Battermann and freshman Dilara Sultanova earned an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. The Cougars won No. 3 by default. 

 

Up 4-1, freshman Jennika Jaison's win at No. 1 singles clinched the win. Jaison won 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore Harshri Asher also picked up a win at No. 4 singles, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5), while freshman Annika Kellerer won 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5.

Averett faces nationally ranked Christopher Newport University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
