LYNCHBURG, Va. — Averett University baseball fell to No. 21 University of Lynchburg 18-3 in Game 1 and 14-0 in Game 2 on Saturday afternoon.

Preston Robbins went 2-for-4 in Game 2.
In Game 1, Averett (8-22, 4-11 ODAC) struck first. Graduate student
Nolan Maccabe slapped a single to second in the bottom of the first. Maccabe later stole second base. He later went around to score on a throwing error from the third baseman. In the bottom half of the inning, Lynchburg (20-11, 10-6 ODAC) strung together some offense to score three runs to take the lead. In the bottom of the second, Lynchburg extended its lead to 5-1. The Hornets' lead grew to an eight-run-lead by the end of the fourth inning.

Caden Grider was hit by pitch. Junior
Mason Williams hit a double into right field to put Grider on third. Junior
Kevin Zischke hit a sacrifice fly into foul territory in right field to score Grider. Going into the bottom of the ninth, Lynchburg extended its lead to 18-2. Maccabe reached first on an error in the bottom of the ninth. Zischke poked a single to second, advancing Maccabe a base. Both baserunners advanced on a passed ball. Maccabe scored on a sacrifice fly hit to left field by freshman
Jack Turner.
Lynchburg struck scored a run early on in the second inning. The Hornets steadily added to their lead, extending it to 8-0 by the end of the fifth inning. Averett's defensive struggles continued, allowing the Hornets to lead 14-0 after the eighth inning. The Cougars recorded six hits in the game and drew two walks.Â
The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday when they host Guilford College at 3 p.m.
