DANVILLE, Va. — The 2024 Averett University women's lacrosse season wrapped up with a convincing victory over Randolph College for the Cougars, 18-3.
Averett (4-10, 3-6 ODAC) led wire to wire in the contest, as Randolph (2-6, 0-0 ODAC) never mounted much of a fight. The reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, junior
Faith Bowlin, continued her tear through opposing defenses and broke the ice to start Averett's scoring. Just one minute into play, Bowlin cut through the WildCat defense to tally her 40th goal of the season. Senior
Irenia Torre followed Bowlin's lead with a goal of her own moments later. Randolph answered back with a goal, before Averett jumped right back on offense. Bowlin netted another, and the freshman tandem of
Ava Soucek and
Kait Cashman each added a goal, as the Cougars carried momentum, and the lead, into the end of the first quarter, 5-1.
The Cougars' offensive explosion carried well into the second quarter, and beyond. Bowlin leapt out of the gates in the second just as she had in the first, this time taking just 57 seconds to open the scoring. Bowlin scored another goal just two minutes later, before freshman
Gracie Kean added a goal to the Cougars' rapidly growing lead. Not to be outshone, Bowlin struck twice more in the second quarter, and Averett carried a 10-2 advantage into halftime.
The ten minute rest did nothing to diminish Averett's firm control of the contest. Cashman scored her second of the game only 30 seconds into the third quarter. Senior
Porsha Davis followed in the footsteps of Cashman, as youth combined with experience, and of course another tally from Bowlin, to extend the Cougars' lead heading into the final 15 minutes of the 2024 season, 13-3.
It was all Averett in the fourth quarter, from the opening draw to the final whistle. Torre, Bowlin, Cashman, and Kean each too their turn firing shots pasts the WildCats' goalkeeper. The last Cougars' goal came courtesy of Bowlin, her ninth of the game and 48th of the season, as Averett continued to pour goals into the net up until the very end. Each of Averett's three goalkeepers hit the field in the contest, as senior
Kaylee Joblon, sophomore
Caitlin Alperstein, and freshman
Kylie McWhorter combined for three saves. Joblon picked up the win in her final action with Averett women's lacrosse, as the program's all time saves leader added to her tally in a dominant performance across all phases for the Cougars.
