Women's tennis eclipses Lynchburg with dominant ODAC win

DANVILLE, Va. — In almost the same amount of time it took for the solar eclipse to pass through the region, No. 47 Averett University women's tennis rolled past University of Lynchburg 9-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Monday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.

Averett (10-4, 6-0 ODAC), ranked No. 10 in the region, dominated Lynchburg (2-10, 1-6 ODAC) from the start in doubles play. Averett got an 8-1 win at No. 1 from junior Keira Gunning and sophomore Elisa Battermann, an 8-1 win at No. 2 from sophomore Harshri Asher and freshman Jennika Jaison, and an 8-1 win at No. 3 from sophomore Franka Keil and freshman Siddhi Khot.

Averett also cruised in singles play, with all six matches being won in straight sets. Freshmen Siddhi Khandelwal and Dilara Sultanova earned wins at the top two spots, respectively, while sophomore Brenda Poulakidas and freshmen Amelie Schroeder, Annika Kellerer and Ana Herrera also earned wins in singles.
