DANVILLE, Va. — No. 44 Averett University women's tennis advanced to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals after rolling past Virginia Wesleyan University 5-0 in Wednesday's ODAC quarterfinals at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (14-5), the No. 2 seed, wasted no time in taking care of business against seventh-seeded Virginia Wesleyan (8-12). The nationally ranked Cougars, who are also ranked No. 10 in the region, swept all three doubles matches to take command 3-0. First, Averett got an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles from sophomore

Jennika Jaison then cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 doubles tandem of junior

Siddhi Khandelwal also won 8-1.
Averett was in control in all six doubles matches, but clinched the 5-0 win after taking the first two completed singles matches. Sultanova won 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles over Shannon Lewes, and Poulakidas had the match-clinching victory with her No. 5 singles win over Sophia Bibbo, 6-1, 6-0.
Averett advances to Saturday's ODAC semifinals against No. 3 seed Sweet Briar College, a 5-0 winner over Roanoke College in its quarterfinal. The semifinals and finals will be hosted in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at Virginia Wesleyan.
