MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Averett University men's track and field freshman Zaiyon Evans placed 13th in the 100-meter sprint at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships.

Evans entered into the final meet of the NCAA Division III season as the 17th-ranked runner out of 22 qualifying athletes in the 100-meter. The Cougars' freshman phenom outran his ranking with a time of 10.57 seconds to finish fifth in Heat 1, which ranked 13th overall. Evans' time also earned him the honor of being the highest finishing freshman athlete to compete in the men's 100-meter event.

While he was unable to secure a spot in Saturday's 100-meter finals, Evans closed the season on a high note as his time secured a place on the outdoor track and field All-American Second Team. Evans becomes the first Averett track and field student-athlete to earn the honor.
