ASHLAND, Va. — Seventh-seeded Averett University softball's season came to an end with a 4-0 loss to No. 6 seed Guilford College in Friday's elimination game at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.
Guilford (19-23) went ahead 1-0 on a bases-loaded walk in the second inning. The Quakers then put together a three-run frame in the third to help them pull away.
Averett (16-24), which took No. 2 seed Randolph-Macon College to nine innings in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss earlier in the day, was limited to three hits by Guilford. Freshman Mackenzie Newcomb, freshman Molly George and senior Olivia Jones accounted for Averett's hits.
