DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University Kameron Blanding, director of track and field/cross country, has resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Averett will begin an immediate search for its next director of track and field/cross country.

Blanding departs after serving as the head coach and director of track and field/cross country since January 2023. He helped guide the new track and field program into its first outdoor season in spring 2023 as new members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and helped the program continue to grow into its second season. This spring, Averett produced its first All-American and NCAA national qualifier during the outdoor season, had multiple student-athletes ranked at one point, had one all-region thrower and four All-ODAC performances at the conference meet.

"We'd like to thank Coach Blanding for his part in helping our program lay a foundation for success," Interim Director of Athletics Danny Miller said. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Averett's track and field program returned for the 2022-23 academic year, and the university partnered with Danville Public Schools for joint use and operation of a nearly $4 million track facility, which includes an NCAA-compliant eight-lane synthetic track, along with field event spaces for long jump, pole vault, steeplechase, javelin, shot put, high jump and hammer/discus. The facility is used by Averett track and field teams and Danville Public Schools high school and middle school student-athletes.
