McNeill joins sports medicine staff as assistant athletic trainer

DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University head athletic trainer Maria Ochoa announced the addition of Alyssa McNeill as an assistant athletic trainer within her department.

McNeill gained experience through immersive clinical experiences, including a semester at Division III SUNY Morrisville working with the men's and women's basketball programs and men's and women's lacrosse programs during spring 2024. She also worked with Division III Wells College during fall 2023, working with 13 sports. McNeill also worked with Division I West Virginia University's track and field and women's volleyball programs, as well as high school athletics and marching bands.

"I am excited to bring Alyssa onto our sports medicine staff," Ochoa said. "I cannot wait to see her continue to grow and develop into an amazing athletic trainer. I'm thrilled to see her share her knowledge and skills with us, our student staff and our student-athletes."

A native of Morehead City, North Carolina, McNeill earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Methodist University in 2022. She completed her Master of Science in Athletic Training for West Virginia in 2024.
