DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University is excited to welcome Annika Seuschek as its next director of track and field/cross country, the school announced Monday.
Seuschek comes to Averett with experience coaching track and field and cross country at multiple levels. Most recently she served as the head coach for cross country and track and field at Schaumburg Christian School in Illinois from August 2022 until accepting the Averett position. Seuschek previously coached at Division III Albion College in Michigan from 2019-22 as an assistant cross country coach and the middle distance coach for track. She also coached track and field distance at Shaumburg Christian in 2018-19 and was the cross country coach at Glenbard West High School in 2018 after serving as an assistant with the program from 2017-18.
"We are excited to have Annika join our team," said Danny Miller, interim director of athletics. "She brings a lot of passion and excitement that will benefit our track and field and cross country programs as a whole and our student-athletes individually. She's ready to continue our programs' development and take them to new heights."
Averett's track and field programs, which just completed their second seasons of existence, produced their first All-American and NCAA national qualifier during the outdoor season, had multiple student-athletes ranked at one point, had one all-region thrower and four All-ODAC performances at the conference meet. Averett also saw growth during indoor track and field competition in Year 2. Meanwhile, Averett's cross country programs have made significant strides in recent seasons as well.
"I could not be more excited to be joining Averett University as its director of track and field/cross country," Seuschek said. "I am honored Averett has chosen me to help build their teams and further grow its programs. I cannot wait to begin working with our team and be a part of the Averett family."
As a student-athlete at Division III North Park University, Seuschek was a member and captain of the cross country and track and field teams, and she set the school record for the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2017 and was among the school's top times in the mile run, 3,000-meter run and distance medley relay during the indoor season. In cross country, Seuschek competed in three NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. She was all-conference in outdoor track in 2017 with her seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She also had top 10 finishes at the conference meet during indoor season in the 4x400 relay (2017 and 2018) and distance medley relay (2015, 2016 and 2017).
A native of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Seuschek earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science from North Park in 2018. She and her husband, Shaun, are in the process of relocating from West Chicago to nearby Blanch, North Carolina.
