The Series: Averett trails the all-time series 14-9 with Ferrum, but the Cougars have had the upper hand in recent years. Since 2017, Averett is 5-1 against Ferrum and the Cougars have a two-game win streak in the rivalry. Averett won 39-10 last season at Ferrum. ... This year may be the last-ever time the Cougars and Panthers face off in football as Ferrum transitions to NCAA Division II next season. Their rivalry dates back to 2000, the first year Averett fielded a football program.
Averett at a Glance: Averett University hosts conference foe and rival Ferrum College on Saturday in a game that is considered a non-conference game (the two meet again in the season finale for their official conference matchup). Averett has opened the season 2-0 after edging Greensboro College 27-20 on the road last week. ... Averett begins the season 2-0 for the third time in program history and the second time in as many years. In addition to this season, Averett also opened 2-0 in 2004 and 2023. In both of those seasons, Averett opened 3-0 and the 2004 team owns the best start in program history at 4-0.
