FERRUM, Va.— Averett University women's volleyball came away with a 3-1 road win over Ferrum College, where the Cougrs were able to come out on top with a 3-1 conference victory on Wednesday night. The Cougars won by scores of 25-11, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-14.
Freshman
Emily McIntosh led the Cougars' offense with 12 kills. Graduate student
Emma Nash was not far behind, contributing 10 kills. McIntosh hit an efficient .435, while Nash recorded a .381 hitting percentage. Averett (5-10, 2-2 ODAC) recorded 54 digs and an overall hitting percentage of .230 against Ferrum (2-10, 0-5 ODAC)
Junior
Dayton Moore orchestrated the offense with 20 assists to go with eight digs, while fifth-year libero
Erin Gray anchored the defense with 11 digs. Freshman
Kyleigh Rains also tallied 10 digs. Junior
Brenda Light also played a key role, adding 11 assists and eight digs. The Cougars' aggressive serving game paid off with a total of 13 aces in the match. Averett's defense was solid at the net, totalling 16 blocks as a team, including five from Nash and four from sophomore
Allie Wilkerson.
Averett will travel to Misenheimer, N.C., on Saturday for a non-conference tri-match against the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan University and host Pfeiffer University.
