NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Averett University men's wrestling had five individuals win first place as the Cougars totaled 18 placers to win the Builder Invitational hosted by the Apprentice School on Saturday. Averett finished atop the team standings with 149.5 points to win by a 17.5-point margin.

Senior Alex Logsdon won the 125-pound title, senior Mauricio Reyes won at 141, senior Noah Harris won at 184, junior Carter Erickson placed first at 197 and senior Jasiri Dingle finished the day in first at heavyweight to highlight the Cougars' day.

The Cougars had three placers at 125 with Logsdon finishing first, freshman Kyree Flamer placing third and sophomore Dominic Pascoe ending up in fourth. Logsdon pinned University of Central Florida's Charlie Smiarowski in the second period. At 133 pounds, sophomore Jesse Lemon notched a third-place finish and junior Landon Neal taking home fifth.

The 141-pound bracket ended with an all-Averett final as Reyes edged junior Wyatt Parker in a 4-3 decision. The Cougars took the top three at 141 as sophomore Joseph Naef placed third, while freshman Luke Zadrazil also placed at 141, finishing sixth. Sophomore Carter Shupert advanced to the finals at 149, but fell short to finish as runner-up. Senior Alex Driggs finished fourth in the bracket at 149. The Cougars had two placers at 157 as sophomore Cooper Comer ended up fifth and junior Jackson Higgins wound up sixth, and freshman Tyler-Nicholas Ritz placed fifth at 174 pounds.

The Cougars finished the tournament with three consecutive titles. Harris bested freshman Grayson Ringwald in an all-Averett final at 184 points with a 20-4 tech fall as the finished one-two in the bracket. At 197, Erickson earned a 7-2 decision over Apprentice's Jordan Butler. Dingle then finished the day with a 13-5 major decision over Marymount University's Steven Ramirez at 285.

Averett returns to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 25, at home against Washington and Lee University.
