Averett at a Glance: Averett University men's basketball team begins the 2025 calendar year with a conference road contest at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday. After starting the season 5-0 and earning votes in the D3hoops.com poll, the Cougars have dropped six in a row amidst injuries and roster changes. Averett lost 62-52 to non-conference foe Pfeiffer University on Dec. 31 despite season highs in steals and blocked shots. ... Graduate student Jason Sellars II ranks sixth all-time on the Averett men's basketball rebounds list with 618 career rebounds after eclipsing that 600-rebound milestone on Dec. 14. with his eight rebounds against Pfeiffer University, Sellars moved into sixth all-time list by surpassing Marquis Scott (2009-13). Next up on the list is David Apple (1997-2000) at 662 boards. Last season, Sellars became the 13th known Averett player to record 500 career rebounds. Hall of Famer Charles Bryant '17 holds the all-time rebounds record with 882 for his career.
Randolph-Macon at a Glance: Randolph-Macon, which started the season ranked No. 7 in the preseason and is still receiving votes in the poll, has won five in a row after taking down Ursinus College 97-54 in the Suyes Yellow Jackets Classic on Dec. 29.
