Averett at a Glance: In its first contest since Dec. 16, Averett University women's basketball returned to the court for an away contest versus Methodist University in one of the team's last non-conference tune-ups before the thick of conference play. Despite being as close as just nine points down at one point, the Monarchs' offense was too much to overcome, falling 70-45 on Monday afternoon. Star freshman guard
DaiShaundria Giggetts finished one point from tying her career-high in points, with a game-leading 24 points on 10-20 field-goal shooting, and had four steals.
Jaa Brown joined her teammate in double-scoring figures with 10, and led in assists with three. Team-wise, Averett continued its efficient season on the glass offensively, leading in the offensive rebounding margin 13-9.
Roanoke at a Glance: The Roanoke College women's basketball team fell to Oglethorpe to round out their slate of the Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic on Monday. It was a tight first quarter with a few lead changes, but Oglethorpe came out of it with a 14-13 lead. The Stormy Petrels went up by 14 at the midway point of the quarter but Roanoke cut the lead down piece by piece thanks to their aggressive play style. Oglethorpe went into the half with a 35-30 lead. RC just couldn't get themselves back in the game in the fourth, ending the game at the final of 66-49. Sophomore Ashley Fowler topped the team in scoring with 14 on the evening. Paige Breuer was the only other Maroons to break double digits with 11. Mariah Cain led in the rebound game once again with eight in the game. Cain has already flown past her previous season rebound totals, standing at 80 on the season so far. Alicea Farmer had a season high in assists with her squad leading three. Cain also tallied three in the contest, putting her fifth in the ODAC in the category.
