VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Averett University women's soccer lost to Virginia Wesleyan University in a conference clash.
Averett (1-9-1, 0-5-0 ODAC) kept things close early against Virginia Wesleyan (9-2-2, 4-1-1 ODAC) but ultimately fell to the Marlins in a 6-0 contest.
The Cougars came out of the gates playing well, holding the Marlins scoreless for much of the first half. Virginia Wesleyan broke through for its first goal in the 28th minute, but was held in check for the rest of the first half. The Marlins attack gained steam in the late stages of the match, picking up five goals in the final 45 minutes to bring the game to its 6-0 final.

Tiia Chrons stonewalled the Virginia Wesleyan attack for a majority of the contest, pulling in 21 saves as Averett's last line of defense.
Averett women's soccer returns to action with a home contest against Hollins University on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m.
