DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University women's soccer lost its season finale at home against Shenandoah University.
Averett (3-12-1, 2-8-0 ODAC) fought hard against Shenandoah (10-6-3, 8-2-0 ODAC) as the Hornets bested the Cougars 7-1.
Averett's lone goal came on a flash of brilliance from two of the Cougars' bright young stars. Freshmen
Isabella Kelly and
Delaney Haymore combined for the Cougars score. Kelly started the sequence with a tackle and took the ball coast to coast, dished it off to Haymore, who played it back to Kelly to deliver the finishing strike. Averett's goalkeepers split time in net, with junior
Krista Hinebaugh tallying six saves, whle junior
Tiia Chrons pulled in five.
That's a wrap on the Averett women's soccer season, as focus shifts towards offseason training with eyes towards the 2026 campaign.
