DANVILLE, Va. — Sophomore
Jackson Sellars scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed a career-best 14 rebounds as Averett University men's basketball rallied in the second half to take down Greensboro College 82-73 in non-conference action Friday night in the Grant Center.
Averett (2-1) overcame an 11-point deficit early in the second half after with the help of key baskets from Sellars and sophomore
Jalen Chambers midway through the period. The Cougars turned a 54-43 deficit with 14:32 to play into a 60-59 advantage with 8:26 left on the clock. Averett gave itself some distance on Greensboro (1-2) down the stretch as Sellars continued to lead the charge.
Sellars became one of only 24 35-point performances in the program's recorded history, and Chambers added a career-high 17 points off the bench to help Averett notch its second consecutive victory.
Averett and Greensboro battled through a tightly contested first half in which the two former conference rivals traded leads 10 times. The Cougars' largest lead was a five-point advantage, 14-9, midway through the first half as Sellars contributed 13 points before the break. Greensboro took a 37-36 lead on free throws in the final seconds of the half to take a one-point advantage into halftime.
