Averett has won six of its last seven games, with the only loss in that span coming at Washington and Lee University ... Averett swept the Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball athlete of the week honors on Monday, as sophomore guard Mason Mitchell was named Offensive Player of the Week and junior Terrell Fitzgerald earned Defensive Player of the Week. Fitzgerald, a native of Chatham, Virginia, collected five combined blocks and steals in Averett's 96-69 win over Warren Wilson on Dec. 10. Fitzgerald posted a career-high in blocks in three, which led the team, while also picking up two steals. Mitchell, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, paced the Cougars against the Owls with 27 points with six made 3-pointers, both career highs.
