SALEM, Va. — Averett University track and field closed out its regular season slate of indoor meets with a trip to the Joe LaRocco Invitational.
The Cougars ran well in their final tune up before conference championship season rolls around. Senior
Nick Andrews placed 11th in the men's 60m dash, earning his spot with a time of 7.16s. Sophomore
Jamahrie Owens led the men's team in the 200m event, posting a time of 24.58s to place 39th. Junior
Jay Davis raced his way to a 33rd-place finish in the men's 400m, with a time of 55.21s. Freshman
Hunter Moss closed out the men's day on the track in the mile run, finishing 31st thanks to a time of 4:48.74.
On the women's side of things, sophomore
Hailey Juhasz paced the Cougars' sprinters. Juhasz earned a 14th-place finish in both the 60m and 200m events, with times of 8.33s and 27.98s, respectively. Juhasz also crossed the line 15th in the women's 400m, posting a time of 1:05.12, to round out her solid day. Sophomore
Gabrielle Griffin continued to shine as a distance runner for the Cougars. Griffin entered into the mile and 3000m run to represent Averett, where she earned solid finishes in each event. Griffin placed 26th in the women's mile, and 13th in the 3000m, finishing with times of 5:54.02 and 11:39.01 in the two distance runs.
Averett entered into three field events over the course of the one day meet. In the men's long jump Andrews posted the Cougars' best mark, a 5.95m leap that placed him 20th overall. Freshman
Damien Patrick represented Averett in the men's shot put, finishing 41st behind the power of a 9.44m throw. Junior
Chris Nelson placed 11th in the men's triple jump, posting a distance of 12.36m, to round out Averett's solid performance.
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference Indoor Championships are up next on the schedule for Averett track and field, set to get underway on March 1st.
