Sellars hits 1,000-point milestone in men's basketball loss at Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Graduate student Jason Sellars II surpassed the 1,000-point milestone for his career as four Cougars scored in double figures, but Averett University men's basketball fell short with an 81-71 road loss to Guilford College on Saturday to end the season.

Sellars, who needed 13 points entering the day, made a layup with under a minute to play to reach the career milestone. He finished with 14 points in the game and 1,001 for his career.

Averett (8-17, 3-13 ODAC), which trailed 41-34 at the break, got five points quickly from sophomore Jamison Graves to open the second period. The Cougars stayed on the Quakers' heels for most of the second half before a 7-0 spurt helped Guilford go up 66-56 with 8:02 to play. Averett couldn't close the cap late as the Quakers (19-6, 12-4 ODAC) held on.

Senior Bryce Shaw scored a team-high 18 points, Graves had 13 points and five assists and sophomore Josh Lewis scored a career-high 11 points. Sellars added nine rebounds in addition to his 14 points.

Sellars finishes his career third all-time in rebounding with 718 boards over five seasons, and finishes 17th all-time on Averett's scoring list.
