WHISPERING PINES, N.C. — The Averett University men's golf B Team finished 11th overall Monday at the Whispering Pines Invitational hosted by Hampden-Sydney College at the Country Club of Whispering Pines.
The Cougars improved their collective team score by five strokes from Round 1 to Round 2, shooting 33-over to finish at 71-over for the tournament on the par-72, 6,974-yard course. Carnegie Mellon University's B Team won by three strokes over Christopher Newport University in the 16-team field.
Freshman
Zach Alway was the top finisher for Averett, shooting an 11-over 155. Freshman
Alexander Wirenlind was three strokes back at 14-over and senior
Alejandro Lucas Nielfa finished at 19-over. Senior
Hunter Crute improved his score by 11 strokes on Day 2 to finish at 27-over.
University of Rochester's Eddie Ren won the event by two strokes with a 1-under 143.
