PINEHURST, N.C. — Averett University men's golf placed 13th as play concluded Monday at the Hampden-Sydney College's Tiger Invitational hosted at Forest Creek Golf Club.
The Cougars, ranked No. 23 in the Scoreboard rankings, improved their score on Day 2 by one stroke, but slipped to 13th after entering the day in a three-way tie in the 20-team field on the par-72, 6,701-yard course. Averett finished with a 25-over-par 601.
Senior
Killian O'Reilly had a stellar second round, shooting a 3-under 69 on Monday after shooting 5-over Sunday. He finished 21st at 2-over for the 36-hole tournament. Freshman
Nick Baum also had a good second round, shooting 1-over to finish at 4-over. Freshman
Benjamin Afzelius finished at 12-over, junior
Miguel Rodriguez Lamana finished at 13-over and junior
Alexander Vidmo shot 16-over for the two-day event.
No. 2 Methodist University held on to win the tournament by 11 strokes with a 9-under 567 — the only team to finish collectively under par. Methodist's Chase Walts shot 4-under on the final day to finish at 10-under for the tournament, winning individual medalist honors by five strokes.
